Nirmal hand-washing program includes-

  1. Educating stake holders in child health (parents, teachers, village health workers and children) about need of hand-washing and use of Nirmal hand-washing device (Modified Tippy Taps)
  2. Construction of a low-cost , locally made hand-washing device – Nirmal – in schools and households to provide running water and soap
  3. Training of stakeholders to use Nirmal hand-washing device with practicing WHO recommended hand-washing steps
  4. Use of various  reinforcement methods such as social appreciation, disgust, games and cultural activities to sustain the use of Nirmal
  5. Timely evaluation of the newly adapted hand-washing behavior
